![]() Perhaps it would be better if they had said "vSphere guest support" but that term is also easily misinterpret. Personally I do think that the claim from VMware on 'vSphere support' is accurate, but I guess with have to agree on disagree in that particular part. You are correct that there are no host provisioning options or host managements options in either Workstation or Fusion and I doubt they would add it. Web client gives you access to the paid only options, as long as the VI Client gives you the access to all non paid features then that is kind of OK. The advantage is that you can at least run the web client on non windows platforms (which pretty much boils down to Mac OS X though as it is currently all flash based and linux+flash isn't very well supported). You are correct that they focus with new development on the Web Client, I'm no fan either, but it is what it is. That has been corrected after a lot of complaints, see also this post from one of their employees. VMware offers technical support for VMware vSphere Essentials on a per-incident basis. The ultimate desktop virtualization solution for developers, testers. The main issue that people complained about was that you couldn't edit VMs with virtual hardware 10. VMware Workstation Pro takes virtualization to the next level with the broadest operating system support. There's not much in the host configuration area, but personally I'd say that is OK.ĮSXi VM disks normally are of type "flat", they use a different format as Fusion/Workstation, but both products can actually use the ESXi disk format.Įdit: got my numbers mixed up, vSphere 5.5 uses vHW10, not 11 There are certainly features in VI Client or WebClient that are not in Fusion or Workstation. ![]() I was wondering what you missed, just curious. User interface is quite different indeed. I also notice that all ESXi VM's appear to have pre-allocated virtual disks when you copy one over from Fusion or Workstation 10? I am still trying to work out the feature differences between Fusion 7 and Wkstn 10, since they look and feel quite different. ![]() You have to create it locally and then copy it over, which I suppose is ok. What abilities do I lose by ONLY having Fusion 7 to manage an unpaid ESXi box? It appears you can't create a new VM ON the ESXi box directly with Fusion 7 Pro. Not sure if you are referring to the VI Client not supporting vHardware 10, that is corrected in the latest vSphere 5.5 client, which does support vHW10.īut yes of course I am not surprised that VMware nudges people to try and use the paid versions of their product. ![]() But the message from VMware seems to be that you need vSphere paid to get full functionality, since everything is moving to the paid web based client. It does appear to offer certain abilities that 10 Workstation does not. The process is quick and safe, eliminating any chances of data corruption or loss thanks to VSS snapshots.I have a VM with that installed in Windows.
